I remember when Seth first rushed at TDC, then moved in. He was like a standup comic every day! I’d never seen anything like him. He was almost the caricature (in a great way) of a New Yorker that little Oklahomans like me would see on TV sitcoms and the like. He was freakin’ hilarious. He was always calling everyone Whitey. Not sure why, but maybe it was his Manhattan roots. So that of course became his nickname on his pledge mug later in the semester. Some years later I think we started to just abbreviate it to YT, perhaps in a moment of early PC attitudes coming out in the early nineties, I’m not sure. But to this day a lot of people still call him Whitey (or YT, really the same thing). In addition to going around saying “screw you Whitey” or whatever to everyone, he used to have a bunch of other hilarious catch phrases. I remember one he used a lot, and I’m not even sure how to spell this or entirely what it was, but basically it was “owtoobaca”. Almost like some Wookie phrase. It apparently came from a nice guy who worked as a bar back with Seth at a bar he worked in during high school – yes, he worked in a bar as a teenager in high school, you have to love Manhattan – and this guy was from Africa. And whenever people would ask him for something or to do something, the guy said something in his own language that to Seth sounded like “owtoobaca” – and he liked it, so he’d walk around saying that all the time. It’s hard really to capture how funny this was when he was helping you get things done as a pledge.
